For the month of August 2024, I was invited as a guest artist to participate in the International Ceramics Symposium FIGURES at the International Ceramics Studio. The culmination of the symposium was the presentation of the works of all oof the invited artists in a closing show.  The other invited artists were Sunbin Lim (KR), Ming-Miao Ko (TW/BE), Natasha Mayo (GB), GergÅ‘ Ámmer (HU), Tamás Szántó (HU) and András Zsigó (HU).

The theme of the symposium was "figurative ceramics, (are) works of art that bear strong references to reality and the real world. With the strengthening of abstract tendencies in recent decades, this genre trend has been strongly

repressed in the world of contemporary ceramics, and with the invited participants of the symposium,

we will research and explore this topic, each with their own means of self-expression, through their

own language of form. The opening included a presentation of the practice of each artist by art historian and critic, Lori-Ann Touchette.

The title of the series I produced there, "Metmorphoses of Minerva", is drawn from the fact that the lower part of the figure is based on a 3-D printed scan of a classical figure of Minerva. Using a slip-casting mould, I created a series of figures which I then completed with wheel-thrown and hand-built elements. I then added additional attributes (both slip-cast and press-moulded) and organic materials dipped in slip. The figures are the largest of my pieces based on 3D prototypes, ranging in height from 64 to 73,5cm. For the show, I presented two of the sculptures, that are now part of the collection of the International Ceramic Studio. Photos of the additional ten sculptures I produced were hung on the wall. I used Hungarian porcelain fired in reduction.
